Meet the Teacher!
Hi there, friends! I’m Regina, and I’m so glad that you’ve found my blog! I started Top Form Teaching in December 2016, in hopes of providing quality, instructional resources that not only engage students, but also meet the performance expectations of our rigorous secondary science standards . At the time, I had no idea as to what being a blogger was all about, but I knew I had so much more to give, so I decided to start this little blog in hopes of reaching more students and educators, as well as moms. A common problem within our schools is the lack of resources, especially in science. Fortunately for me, my colleagues have been amazing, and they have taught me more about education than I learned in graduate school!
Meet the Family!
My true passion is science and education, but I am also a busy mom that loves to get creative in the kitchen and travel with her family. I love helping others in the classroom and at home, and those passions manifest themselves in my posts. It is my hope that this little blog will allow me to “pay it forward” by publishing helpful tips, delicious recipes and engaging educational content.
To try to help educators even more in the areas of organization and productivity, I have also created some great tools that can be used in any content area to make that classroom really stand out from the rest.
Science Is My Passion.
It was in my high school biology classes that I first fell in love with science. My high school teacher was amazing and boy could she deliver the content. I was inspired to do the same. From that point on, I knew that my career would have to be centered around science. I majored in biology and minored in chemistry in college and worked at some of the most prestigious universities in the United States performing biomedical research. I furthered my education by earning a Masters in Education and I have enjoyed being in the classroom interacting with students and giving them the same experience that sparked my love for science many years ago.
Chad Is My College Sweetheart.
My husband, Chad, and I met at college in Spring 2001. We was a fraternity boy and I was a sorority girl and we happened to meet out with friends one night. As you can clearly see, my husband has no hair, which made him intrigued by mine 🙂 I wish I could say that we hit it off immediately and it was love at first sight, but that would be a lie. I was dating someone at the time, but that did not stop Chad in the least. That just made him more determined to win my heart. He would ask my friends about me and he even sent flowers to me while I was on a date with someone else! Finally, after much persistence, I gave the guy a chance and we’ve been together ever since. I suppose his persistence and resilience is what makes him such a great financial advisor and husband!
My Family Thought I Would Be The Last One To Have Children.
Being an only child, I did not grow up around small children. I rarely had to share, I never baby-sat as a teenager, and the first baby I ever held was my own. There was a point where I did not think kids fit into my future, until one fateful day in Chicago that it all just clicked and I realized that was what Chad and I were missing in our lives. Now we are the parents of TWO rambunctious little ones with loads of personality. There is never a dull moment in the Chustz home!
I’ve Been Voted Most Challenging Teacher Three Years In A Row.
I’ve been known to bring the rigor, but with good intentions. When I teach my students the content, I always add a little lagniappe to ensure their readiness for the next level of their educational career. I expect a lot from my students, but I also expect a lot from myself as well. An effective teacher’s work ethic is like no other!
My Husband Has A Culinary Degree That He Uses At Home.
Yes, that’s right! Chad started cooking professionally when he was 15 years old. After college, he went on to culinary school to pursue his dream of being a chef at a fine dining restaurant. He’s worked in some amazing, well-known restaurants in New Orleans, North Carolina, and Chicago. Ten months after being blessed with our daughter, we both decided that the culinary profession was not very conducive to family life. Now, Chad uses his culinary degree to make amazing dishes for our family at home that we are willing to share with you on this blog.
We Live In Cajun Country.
Southern Louisiana is where we call home, and it has been that way all our lives except for a 5-year stunt where we lived in North Carolina and Chicago. Our family’s help us in more ways than we can count, and we are truly blessed to have such a great support system.
We Love To Travel.
My husband’s job has afforded us the opportunity to travel around the world to some of the most exotic places that I thought I would have only dreamed of visiting. We love to take our daughter so that she may experience other cultures, different foods, and see what’s beyond the borders of our quaint southern town. We hope to share some of our travel experiences here with you on this blog so perhaps you may also be inspired to visit some of these amazing vacation spots.
