As a teacher myself, I know (and my husband knows) how much of our own money we spend on my classroom, my students and school supplies each year. It’s more than I care to divulge, and I know that many teachers invest much of their free time and money to help our students learn, grow and reach their goals.
Each year in May we get our shining moment during teacher appreciation week where we are showered with gifts, given free food and made to feel like the kings and queens of education that we are. I’ve polled some fellow teachers, and here is what they would like as a teacher appreciation gifts this year:

1. Mugs, Travel Cups, Insulated Water Bottles
Every teacher I know has some sort of mug or beverage holder for their coveted coffee or ice water, and we all appreciate a cutesy cup to carry it around in or one that will keep it hot/cold for longer. Often times we grab that cup of coffee from the lounge, get distracted and by the time we remember about the coffee it has turned cold.
I don’t know many women who don’t like jewelry, even if it’s just a simple handmade bracelet or personalized necklace. It’s always a sweet gesture that can be treasured and worn for many years to come.
3. Bath Bombs
After a long day at school, it’s so comforting and relaxing to sit in a hot, fizzing bath tub filled with these fragrant bath bombs. All of these are handmade in the U.S. and are 100% natural and gentle on the most sensitive skin.
4. Home Fragrance
Teachers love candles, incense, room mist or just about anything that makes the home smell nice and inviting and these choices make for a perfect go-to gift.
5. School Supplies
Teachers buy a lot of school supplies, many of which they don’t buy for their own personal use. Treat your special teacher to some school supplies to dress up his/her teacher desk or a variety of essential items that will be needed for next school year so that he/she doesn’t have to buy it. Donations are always useful and appreciated, even if it’s just paper.
6. Gift Cards
If you are in a pinch or you are just at a complete loss, a teacher will always appreciate a gift card. Some of the top places teachers shop are:
- Hobby Lobby or Michael’s
- Office Depot or Staples
If you would rather treat your special teacher to a meal on you, we like to eat too, especially when we don’t have to pay for it. Restaurant gift cards or Starbucks gift cards are great gift options as well.
7. Anything Related to Wine
I know that I am not the only teacher out there that enjoys a glass of wine to help unwind after a long school day. Grab some personalized labels and slap it on his/her favorite bottle of wine. Buy the popular corkcicle to help keep his/her favorite adult beverage nice and cold. Whichever you choose, it is sure to be a hit (just make sure that they do indeed enjoy adult beverages).
8. Personalized Gifts
Personalized gifts are also popular among teachers, leaving behind that extra special touch. If you are looking for an awesome personalized gift made for teachers by a teacher, then check out the Top Form Teacher Lesson Planner. It is the ultimate organizational tool made especially for that special teacher with her name or initials on the front and loads of goodies that will get her off to a great start for next school year.
9. Be a Parent Volunteer and Give that Special Teacher a Break
If you are strapped for cash or you waited too long to get a gift, your special teacher will remember for years to come the day a parent volunteer came to watch his/her class free of charge while they had the freedom to take a long lunch off campus and catch up on all the things they never have time to do on a regular school day.
10. Expanding Stand and Grip for Smartphones and Tablets
Every teacher loves techy gifts, but those can get expensive really fast. If you are looking for an inexpensive gift for your tech-loving teacher, then these expanding stands and grips that attach to their smartphone or tablet is a great option. They come in a variety of patterns and colors that will appeal to both the male and female teacher.
